What it is

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-like molecule that can bind water at the skin's surface. In Korean skincare it appears in toners, ampoules, sheet masks, and gel creams because it gives a quick sense of bounce without adding oil.

What it does

It pulls water into the upper layers of the skin, softening the look of fine dehydration lines and helping makeup sit more smoothly. It is not a repair ingredient on its own, but hydrated skin often feels calmer and more flexible.

How to use it

Apply to slightly damp skin after cleansing, then follow with a cream or lotion. It layers well with almost every active, including niacinamide, centella, retinoids, and exfoliating acids.

Good to know

Usually gentle, but it works best when sealed with a moisturizer. In very dry air, a hydrating serum without enough cream on top can leave skin feeling tight.
