What it is
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that shows up in a huge share of Korean serums, toners, and moisturizers. It's water-soluble, plays well with almost every other active, and is stable enough that brands can use it generously.
What it does
It supports the skin barrier by boosting ceramide production, helps fade the look of post-acne marks over weeks of consistent use, and moderates excess oil — which is why it turns up so often in products aimed at combination and acne-prone skin.
How to use it
Morning or night, after your lightest watery steps and before heavier creams. It layers comfortably under sunscreen and pairs well with hyaluronic acid and gentle exfoliants.
Good to know
Generally very well tolerated. A small number of people find high concentrations (10%+) briefly flushing or tingly; if your skin is reactive, start with a 5% formula.
