What it is

Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid and one of the most common names you'll see on Korean hydrating products. It is water-soluble, lightweight, and easy for formulators to place in watery essences and serums.

What it does

It helps hold water at the surface of the skin, making skin feel softer and less crepey. Compared with heavier moisturizing ingredients, it gives hydration without much residue, which is why it appears in routines for both oily and dry skin.

How to use it

Use it in a toner, ampoule, or serum step before creams and sunscreen. It is especially useful after cleansing, after a clay mask, or anytime skin feels dehydrated but not necessarily oily-dry.

Good to know

Very low irritation risk for most people. If your skin feels tight after using it, pair it with a richer moisturizer rather than adding more layers.
