Riverside Spa Land

강변스파랜드

3.4 (17) · Bulhanjeungmak bathhouse

The main heat source is a pine-log fire rather than an element — the older bulhanjeungmak method — and the rooms around it are graded by material as much as by temperature: charcoal, salt, ochre, silver.

Neighborhood: Gwangjin
Best for: the wood-fired end of Korean sauna culture
Address: 서울 광진구 구의강변로 45 성진빌딩 지하2층

About: Riverside Spa Land occupies two basement levels at 45 Guui-gangbyeon-ro in Gwangjin-gu, about 9,900 square metres in all.

The centrepiece is a traditional bulhanjeungmak, a kiln heated by burning pine logs rather than by an element. Around it are rooms graded by material: charcoal, salt, a silver pyramid room, ochre rooms, an igloo room, and an ochre kiln reserved for women. The wet side has hot and cold pools, a massage pool, an aqua-walking pool and both wet and dry saunas, drawn on sulphur groundwater.

It is open around the clock, year round, with admission split into a daytime and a night rate. Game rooms, a children's play area and food service sit alongside the bathing floors.
