Supsok Hanbang Land

숲속 한방 랜드

3.9 (11) · Charcoal kiln sauna

A charcoal kiln is a different heat from a jjimjilbang's heated room. The kilns here are held at low, medium and high temperatures, so you work through them in stages rather than picking one and staying in it.

Neighborhood: Seodaemun
Best for: the charcoal-kiln version of a Korean sauna
Address: 서울 서대문구 봉원사길 75-7

About: Supsok Hanbang Land is at 75-7 Bongwonsa-gil, in Bongwon-dong, on the Seodaemun side of Ansan and next to Bongwonsa temple.

The format is the charcoal kiln rather than the jjimjilbang: domed kilns fired with oak charcoal and held at low, medium and high temperatures. Men's and women's bathhouses are separate. There is a restaurant on site, and a fire pit at the kilns where sweet potatoes and rice cakes are roasted.

The grounds open at 06:30 and close at 22:00; the kilns themselves run from 08:00 to 21:00. Getting there means a bus — Sinchon Station on Line 2, then the bus towards Bongwonsa — and the Ansan trails start from the same spot.
